GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – An upcoming recruitment event, hosted by the City of Grand Rapids, aims to generate awareness of available and upcoming City job opportunities. The Recruitment Symposium will take place Monday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Wealthy Theater (1130 Wealthy St SE).
City personnel will detail upcoming position openings and explain the Civil Service application and testing processes. As part of the “Grow Our Own” initiative, City officials will also outline the many rewarding careers available in public service. Human Resources staff will also share information about competitive benefits packages such as paid sick leave and vacation, tuition reimbursement, continuing career training and education, job security and competitive salary ranges.
“We are building the City’s future together,” City Manager Greg Sundstrom stated. “Those recruited and hired today will shape policy, services and programs for years to come.”
According to Mari Beth Jelks, Grand Rapids’ managing director of Administrative Services/Human Resources, due to retirements, the City anticipates that as many as 300 positions will open over the next three years.
“It is crucial to find exceptional, homegrown and diverse talent to serve our great City,” said Jelks. “The City offers rewarding opportunities that make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
